Prophet Elias Church
It is located on the highest spot of the island and overlooks Keros. It is not an ordinary temple as the ones we are accustomed to but a “handmade” place of worship to the Saint. Constructed upon the ruins of an old Byzantine temple, it is whitewashed and draped in blue and white, in complete harmony with the colours of the Aegean. No one has been able to properly complete the reconstruction of it and according to locals, anyone attempting in the past encountered bad luck. It is definitely worth visiting as you will see the icon of Prophet Elias, a vigil lamp and an altar which are all taken care of by the island’s faithful. On the day of his name day celebration, July 20th, the residents gather at the site for Evening Prayer.
